College of Education & Professional Studies - General Scholarships
Philip S. Anderson Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has achieved sophomore status and has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Along with the application, two letters of recommendation from Teacher Education Faculty are required.
O. E. Born Memorial Scholarship:
The student must be a junior or senior with a major in the College of Education and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Selection is based upon scholarship as well as active participation in extracurricular activities. These may include church, community, and/or university activities.
Dr. Daniel H. Brown Family Scholarship:
Recipient must be a junior or senior at UWRF and enrolled in the Education degree program. Recipient must be an undergraduate student seeking certification as an elementary, middle, or secondary school teacher. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and must have demonstrated financial need. Scholarship is renewable for the senior year if criiteria continues to be met.
Mary Weiss Cashman International Education Scholarship:
Awarded to junior or second semester graduate student in a College of Education Teacher Education Program. Undergraduates must be accepted in Overseas Student Teaching. Graduates must be accepted in International Visiting Teacher Program. Students must demonstrate a global awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences through their application essay including the following details: Describe experiences that you have had that demonstrate your capacity to be flexible and adaptable to unfamiliar surroundings and situation. Explain why you are seeking an international experience and what was the sources of your inspiration. Explain what you expect to gain from your international experience. Describe the kind of contribution you will be able to make as a result of your international experience.
Coballes and Vega Latino Scholarship:
Recipient is Hispanic or Latino origin; the first in family to attend college (neither of parents have received a four year college degree); a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better; undergraduate or graduate student in the field of education. Student must submit a typed one-page essay in either English or Spanish which provides information on his or her cultural, heritage, family background, reasons for considering education as a career, and a statement of the person's long term career goals.
E.S. and Alice M. Davison Scholarship:
Awarded to a student in the College of Education in even numbered fiscal years (Example: 2009-10) only and awarded to a student in the College of Business and Economics in odd numbered fiscal years (Example: 2010-11) only.
Anne Dubbe Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a student in teacher education.
Andy Kruger Grant:
A student must have used all the athletic eligibility in football per NCAA eligibility requirements. Must be enrolled at UW-River Falls in a College of Education degree program. Is preparing for a career in education and has an interest in coaching and assisting the UWRF football program.
Evelyn Sansburn Greaton Scholarship:
Granted to a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Education with elementary or mathematical emphasis who plans to continue at UWRF. An individual may be eligible for more than one year if the selection committee so determines.
Nelle Knight Scholarship Award:
Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a degree in the College of Education; plan to complete education at UWRF; scholarship and active participation in extracurricular activities, which may include church and community, as well as university activities.
Spencer L. Larson Excellence in Education Scholarship:
Awarded to a student with an education major. The preference is that the student has a GPA of 3.5 in their sophomore, junior or senior year.
Viola E. Lundeberg Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior who has been admitted to the Teacher Education program with financial need, a minimum GPA of 2.75, and a graduate of a Pierce or St. Croix County high school.
Mickey McDermott Special Education Scholarship:
Awarded to undergraduate students using the following criteria:
- Must be admitted into the Teacher Education program with priority for elementary education.
- Must have financial need
- Must demonstrate interest in Special Education and related activities.
- Must submit an essay as part of their scholarship application that identifies interest in special education, evidence of prior work with special needs children, and / or activities related to the teaching of special needs children.
- Preference given to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 2.9 or above.
- Preference given to a student who is from Wisconsin or Minnesota.
Dan and Lori McGinty Scholarship:
Awarded to student admitted into the Teacher Education Program in a Health and Human Performance major with demonstrated involvement in co-curricular activities and/or community service.
Reverend Dr. Robert A. and Pauline L. Olson-Koenig Scholarship:
Awarded to full time students who plan to teach mathematics using the following criteria: Must be admitted to the teacher education program and be seeking mathematics certification. Must be a deserving student and have demonstrated financial need. Must have demonstrated a past work history or experience working as a volunteer in their community.
P. J. Pedersen Family Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has been accepted into the Teacher Education program.
Robert W. and Ella E. Polgar Fritz Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who will be entering the junior year, has completed at least 60 credits, and will be continuing at UW-River Falls. The student must have demonstrated leadership ability and potential for acceptance into the College of Education toward a teaching major.
Kenneth L. and Martha R. Preston Scholarship:
Awarded to a student that has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program in the College of Education. The student must be in good academic standing as determined by the College, and must plant to complete their education at UWRF.
Margaret and Edward Rock and Peggy and Donald Iverson Scholarship:
Awarded to a student with sophomore standing. Based upon academic achievement, financial need, and promise as a future teacher, this scholarship is presented to a continuing student majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education.
Dora Marie and Barbara Rohl Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior (60 credit hours completed) or senior who has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program and has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. In odd years (2009-10), the scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Broad Area Social Studies-History. In even years (2010-11), the scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing the MC-EA, Middle Childhood through Early Adolescent teaching level (elementary education) who plans to teach 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Students who are pursing the early childhood major or minor do not qualify for this scholarship. Recipient must show evidence of having worked on behalf of one or more of the following: the elderly, the mentally or physically challenged, the homeless, the chemically dependent, or in church activities, mentoring programs, kinship program, Y programs, or environmental activities. Recipient of this scholarship must plan to receive his or her Bachelor's Degree within four (4) years.
William and Dorothy Romoser Scholarship:
Student must be an education major. Be involved in campus extracurricular activities (e.g. government, athletics, music, environment, Phi Delta Kappa, etc.) Must have attained junior or senior status and have been admitted to the teacher education program. To qualify for consideration, the applicant must write an essay on one of the following topics: "What does it mean to you to be a teacher?" or "What is the role of public education?"
