University of Wisconsin - River Falls Foundation Scholarships
All Majors Scholarships
Jack and Ann Agnew Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior or senior enrolled as a full-time student with at least two semesters remaining at UWRF, a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and a commitment to attain a degree from UWRF. Applicants should have demonstrated leadership abilities and involvement in campus student activities, community organizations and/or civic and service organizations. Preference is given to nontraditional students. All applicants should include an essay on why the student is qualified to receive this award.
American Association of University Women:
Must be a female at least 24 years of age, be an undergraduate student and have junior standing at the beginning of the next school year. Student must have returned to school after at least one year of absence from classes. Consideration in part on the basis of financial need.
Donald L. and Mari A. Betz Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has attained sophomore or junior status, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, have demonstrated leadership potential and have a strong international interest. Please submit a brief essay (500 words or less) on the topic: How do I prepare myself for leadership roles and the challenge of change in our highly interconnected world?
Viola C. and Carroll J. Brown Scholarship:
One based upon financial need and one upon leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities; both require a GPA of 2.0 or better; to a student from the St. Croix Valley area, defined as those towns from Marine, MN to Red Wing, MN (Marine on St Croix, Stillwater, Bayport, Lakeland, Hastings, and Red Wing), and Somerset, WI to Prescott, WI. (Somerset, Houlton, Hudson, Roberts, River Falls, Ellsworth, Prescott)
Lew Garrison Coit Scholarship:
Preference given to students taking government or economic related courses. Students must have demonstrated leadership ability and deportment that has been deemed satisfactory.

Judy George and Mel Germanson Registrars' Scholarship:
Student must have completed three (3) semesters at UWRF at the time they are being considered for this scholarship. The student must have worked or be working for the Registrar, Cashier, or Financial Assistance Office at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Selections will be based on GPA, citizenship, and campus/community involvement.
Jim Hallen Memorial Scholarship:
Student must be a sophomore or junior with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student may be majoring in any field, with preference given to an individual entering the teaching profession. Student must be active in extra curricular activities and must demonstrate good citizenship.
Annette Harrison Memorial:
Awarded to an undergraduate, female student over 25 years of age, who demonstrates need, aptitude, a potential for professional achievement and excellence, as well as a commitment to attain a degree from UW-River Falls.
Ben Hawkinson Memorial Scholarship:
To provide annual scholarship funds to from two to four students.
Dr. Eugene and Dorothy Kleinpell Scholarship:
Awarded to either one graduating undergraduate senior who shall be pursuing a graduate degree either at UWRF, or at any other accredited graduate school (the award shall be limited to one year's graduate work and no graduate student shall receive the award more than once). Undergraduate students, excluding freshman, will receive full tuition. The scholarship will be renewed if eligibility continues.
Ann M. Lydecker Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has attained junior or senior status with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need. The recipient must have demonstrated leadership abilities and involvement in campus student activities, community organizations and/or civic organizations. An emphasis will be placed on formal leadership positions held on campus. Preference given to a woman.
David and Mildred Lydecker Scholarship:
Student must have attained sophomore or junior status, be over 25 years of age, have dependents in the home between the ages of 0 and 15 years, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have demonstrated financial need.
Marcel K. Lynum Scholarship:
Awarded to continuing students who apply and have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. This is a continuation of the freshmen scholarship. Current recipients will be automatically considered. No application necessary.
Gerald R. Matteson Sigma Alpha Scholarship:
The purpose of the endowed fund is to provide a scholarship(s) to students involved in the Sigma Alpha organization at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Allison M. Neel Memorial Scholarship:
The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a junior or senior student pursuing a major in one of the following academic areas: Chemistry, Physics, Plant and Earth Science, Biology, Geology, Psychology. The applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to applicants whose permanent residence is in either Pierce or St. Croix County.
Allen and Mary Ann (Schmitz) Nelson Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior or senior at UWRF who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Student must be a graduate of Elmwood Wisconsin High School (even academic year, example: 2009-2010) or Clayton Wisconsin High School (odd academic year, example 2010-2011) alternating between high schools. In the event that the application pool does not include an applicant from the high school during designated year, the scholarship may be awarded two or more years consecutively to the same high school as circumstances deem necessary. Preference given to an Agriculture Education student or any secondary education student, if there are no eligible applicants from either Elmwood Wisconsin or Clayton Wisconsin High Schools.
Don and Ann Mayer Newburn Scholarship:
Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior with demonstrated participation in extra curricular activities (may include: church, community as well as university based activities). Selection based on scholarship as well as active participation in extra-curricular activities (may include Church, community, as well as University based activities), the student must be of high moral character. Student must include an essay on why the recipient thinks he/she is qualified for this scholarship. May be eligible for the award for more than one year, but must submit a new application to be considered.
Willis H. Miller Memorial Scholarship: (Awarded the 2010-11 academic year only.)
Three scholarships for continuing students will be awarded with preference for one sophomore (renewable two additional years), one junior (renewable one additional year) and one senior (non-renewable).
- Peference will be given to applicants from the general Hudson - North Hudson, Wisconsin area, which area includes the towns of Hudson, St. Joseph and Troy.
- Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Preference will be given to students with strong academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.
- Applicants are required to write an essay: “How I have helped make the Hudson community a better place.”
Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5. If the student’s GPA falls below 2.5, the scholarship will be discontinued.
Capt. William Nordeen (USN) Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a senior with a 2.5 minimum GPA and at least 2 semesters remaining with demonstrated participation in extracurricular activities. Student must be a resident of Wisconsin. Must have contributed to campus life through participation in extra-curricular activities. Individual may be eligible for award for more than one year if the selection committee so determines.
Dr. Vanetta (Judy) Ogland Scholarship:
Awarded to a nontraditional student, over the age of 25 at the time of application who has completed at least one semester at UWRF with minimum GPA 3.25 and has a history of participation in extra-curricular activities (may include church, committee, and school), with identified course of study or career goals. Preference will be given to women who are the major source of income for the family and who have children to support. Application should be accompanied by the names and addressed of at least three (3) references (pastor, teachers, employers, or others who are well acquainted with the applicant) who will be contacted by the committee.
Donald A. and Jo M. Page Scholarship:
Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior with minimum GPA of 3.0 who plans to continue education at UWRF. Evidence of volunteer participation, community service activities, and/or personal service to an under privileged individual would aid in the selection of the successful applicant.
Edwin (Ted) Reed Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to students in good standing at UW-River Falls. In addition to the application, students should provide two letters of recommendation, one from a faculty member, the other from an employer or supervisor. In addition, each applicant should provide an essay detailing the student's qualifications for this scholarship.
River Falls Geological Society Scholarship:
- Awarded to two students.
- One scholarship to an active RFCS member with at least 2 semesters remaining who has demonstrated significant club participation.
- One scholarship to a student entering their sophomore or junior year who is a RFGS member and has demonstrated significant club participation.
River Falls Tuesday Club Award:
Awarded to a woman who has had an interruption of a year or more in the pursuit of her education career. Recipient must successfully carry at least 6 credits and can be enrolled in any discipline. This may be an on-going scholarship if the recipient is making satisfactory progress toward a degree, but may not receive the award more than three times.
Annie Gough Robbins Memorial Scholarship:
In memory of Annie Gough Robbins who served UW-River Falls for many years as secretary for the Department of History, awarded to a female nontraditional student over 25, with a GPA of 2.0 or better and in good academic standing, and shall be based solely on financial need.
David Rodli Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a sophomore on the basis of leadership and need in the upper 10th of the class.
Charles G. Stratton Scholarship:
Granted to a student residing in Stratton Hall with the highest GPA, has completed two semesters, and plans to continue at UWRF. Committee may modify this choice if the top student or students are receiving substantially larger awards from some other source at the same time that the C.G. Stratton award is to be given.
Richard and Grace Swensen Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who participated in the UWRF Forensics Program. Student must be classified as a junior (60 credits earned by Fall of the year in which they receive the scholarship). Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Must plan to continue his/her education at UW-River Falls.
The Lutheran Home: River Falls Scholarship:
Presented to a continuing student at UW-RF who has worked at The Lutheran Home: River Falls for six months.
The Brother Brian Alton Theta Chi Fraternity President's Scholarship:
Awarded to the President of Theta Chi Fraternity - Zeta Sigma Undergraduate Chapter for the past academic year. Applicants must submit a short one-page essay on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
The A. William Gorham Jr. Theta Chi Fraternity Leadership and Education Scholarship:
Awarded to the undergraduate brother of Theta Chi Fraternity that best displays leadership in the Chapter and in the classroom. Applicants must submit a short one-page essay on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
The Brother Dave May Theta Chi Fraternity Undergraduate Brother of the Year Scholarship:
Awarded to the brother determined as undergraduate of the year by the Theta Chi Fraternity Alumni Association Awards Committee. Applicants must submit a short one-page essay on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
The Brother J. Pat McLaughlin Theta Chi Director of Housing Scholarship:
Awarded to the director of Housing of Theta Chi - Zeta Sigma Chapter for the past academic year. Applicants must submit a short one-page essay on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
The Brother Jeffry R. Storey Theta Chi Fraternity Helping Hand Scholarship:
Awarded to the undergraduate brother of Theta Chi Fraternity that best displays leadership to Fraternity, Community, and University. Applicants must submit a short one-page essay on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
Theta Chi Fraternity Bob Worm Scholarship:
Awarded by the Theta Chi Fraternity Alumni Association Awards Committee.
The Ted Neuman Scholarship:
Two scholarships will be awarded each year: one to a member of Delta Theta Sigma, and one to a Delta Theta Sigma Little Sister.
The recipient must not be in the first year of school or the last semester of school. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
University of Wisconsin-River Falls Community Scholarship:
Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, a minimum 90 credits earned, a commitment to obtaining a degree from UW-River Falls and have demonstrated participation in UW-RF extracurricular activities. Complete an essay entitled, "The Impact of a UW-River Falls Degree.
University Women's Club Scholarship:
Students must have attained Junior status and demonstrated scholarship, leadership, and character. Financial need is also taken into consideration.
Viking Coca-Cola Scholarship:
To provide support to a student who is in good academic standing and involved in leadership activities at UW-River Falls and within the greater community.
Tatia M. Williamson Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has worked for the Foundation for at least one year (two semesters). The student can have worked in the office (work study/student assistant), have worked during telethons, or have been an Student Advancement Association officer. An essay is required. The essay question is "How I am bettering the university, now and in the future". The student should talk about his/her plans after school as well as plans while in school.
John G. Wirsig, Jr. Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a student who has experienced a break of at least three years in pursuing higher education. Based upon academic performance, commitment to obtaining a degree at UW–River Falls and financial need, applicants must attach an essay detailing the student's qualifications.
