Incoming Freshmen Scholarships
The application process for the UWRF Foundation general scholarships is November 24, 2009 to January 8, 2010. For additional information, contact Logan Spindler, Scholarship Coordinator at scholarships@uwrf.edu or by phone at (715)425-3505.
*Bernice A. “Bunny” Smith Woodman Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman that has demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership ability in school and/or community activities. Students in the upper 20% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 28 or higher are eligible to apply.
*Shawn Michael Taylor Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who excels in academic pursuits, is actively involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrates good citizenship in the community. Students in the upper 20% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 28 or higher are eligible to apply. In the essay, students must explain their future educational plans, general interests, extracurricular activities, and career goals.
*Ben Hawkinson Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman that has demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership ability in school and/or community activities. Students in the upper 20% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 28 or higher are eligible to apply.

**Marcel K. Lynum Scholarships:
These scholarships are awarded to outstanding incoming freshmen who have demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership ability in school and/or community activities. Students in the upper 10% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 25 or higher are eligible to apply.
**Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation Scholarships:
These scholarships are granted to outstanding incoming freshmen who reside in one of the following counties: Polk, Pierce, St. Croix, Dunn, and Barron counties in Wisconsin and Washington, Dakota, Ramsey, and Hennepin counties in Minnesota. Students in the upper 10% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 25 or higher are eligible to apply. This award can be continued for the sophomore year if the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5.

The Brother Royce Keehr Theta Chi Fraternity Freshman Welcome Scholarship:
Awarded to a high school senior who will be attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as a freshman student. All majors are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to male students.
Diversity Scholarship:
Awarded to a first year student of African American, Hispanic, Native American, or Asian American descent who has demonstrated leadership ability and financial need. Students must submit two letters of recommendation attesting to the leadership ability and potential of candidate. The scholarship will be renewed if eligibility continues.
Earl and Marie Clausen Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a Polk County, WI, high school graduate who plans to attend UWRF. The recipient must be in good academic standing, be a responsible citizen and student, and a legal resident of Wisconsin. The scholarship may be continued for three years if satisfactory academic progress is being made and the student applies.
H. Gaylon Greenhill Scholarship:
Awarded to a high school senior who will be attending UW-River Falls. The student must be a graduate of a high school in either Barron or Dunn Counties and in the top quartile of his/her graduation class. Student must have financial need.
Gotham-Banks Scholarship:
This scholarship is granted to an entering freshman who will graduate from Chetek High School in the top third of the class. This award is based on demonstrated financial need and active participation in extra-curricular activities, which may include school, church, community, or 4-H. The student should indicate an interest in pursuing a teaching career; however, this does not exclude other candidates.
Willis H. Miller Memorial Scholarship:
- Preference given to applicants from the general Hudson - North Hudson, Wisconsin area, which area includes the towns of Hudson, St. Joseph and Troy.
- Students must have a minimum ACT of 22.
- Preference will be given to students with strong academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.
- Applicants are required to write an essay: “How I have helped make the Hudson community a better place.”
Neal H. Stoddard Leadership Scholarship:
Awarded to incoming freshman from any of the following Wisconsin areas. Hometown of Downing, WI; Graduate of Glenwood City High School; Graduate of a high school within the Badger Conference including Oregon, Edgewood, Monona Grove, Monroe, Stoughton, Fort Atkinson, Milton, Baraboo, DeForest, Mt. Horeb, Portage, Reedsburg, Sauk Prairie, and Waunakee.
Carl and Marian O'Connell Wurtz Scholarship:
Students who rank in the upper one-third of their high school or university classes scholastically shall be eligible for the award. Based on scholarship and financial need, this scholarship is awarded to students from a rural area (defined as towns with populations of 5000 or less) whose class rank is in the top third. This scholarship may be continued for up to four years of undergraduate study if the recipient reapplies and meets the above criteria.
Dennis Dahlka Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to one student per year and is renewable for three years, if the student maintains a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, with no semester lower than 2.75. The student must have graduated from a Wisconsin high school; must be a resident of the state of Wisconsin; must be in the top third of his/her graduating class; must be a major within the college which has the selection for that award year. This scholarship will not award for 2010-11.
