Applied Music PERMISSION NUMBER Request

Applied music (private lessons on an instrument or voice) is an extremely expensive instructional service that is offered at no extra cost to music majors and minors who are fulfilling degree requirements (Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5).
If space is available, non-music majors or minors, or music majors and minors taking applied music for credits beyond those required for their degree, may enroll but are subject to an additional fee of $350 per credit (Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10).

To become eligible for private lessons with no additional fee, a student must:

  1. Officially declare a major or minor in music.
  2. Take one or more academic courses in music (usually theory) concurrently with applied music, or as soon as the student can enter the course sequence if a major or minor is declared late in the academic year.
  3. Demonstrate basic performance competence through an audition on the instrument.

Read additional policies which affect applied music.

A separate form must be submitted for each Applied Music course.
